Recent Improvements to the Dog Park:

  • Small Dog Park is complete
  • Parking lot expansion is complete

Improvements are funded in part by RUFF, with money raised from Pooches on the Parkway in May and our Chili Dog supper in January.  Our sincere thanks to both participants and sponsors!

DO YOU HAVE SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE DOG PARK?  WE WANT TO HEAR THEM!

  1. More benches!

  2. My Chesapeake bay retreiver is very upset that the pond area is locked for the season.

We would like to know when it might open.

    thanks

  3. Very soon, I’m sure. The gates are locked through the winter to prevent escapes across a frozen pond, but with the nice weather lately, it’s time to open it up. Your question has been forwarded to the parks director, and I will update this as soon as I hear back from him.

  4. Calling all water-lovers, the gate to the pond is now unlocked!

  5. What I would like to see is some agility equipment similar to what Lee’ Summit has at their dog park. A tunnel, a hurdle, hoop, what I call “king of the hill” two inclines like the peak of a roof the dogs climb up one side and descend the other.

  6. I would like to see once a month a Someone who loves the park out at the park once a month teaching a Intro to the park to anyone who is new to the park to help them come familiar with the park and help them feel comfortable at the park.

  7. A friend of mine just told me about this park this weekend. I would LOVE to bring my dogs to play, but I am not familiar with the rules and common courtesies of a dog park. Is there posted information at the park? Maybe posting something here on the website would be beneficial as well.

  8. One of my favorite parks because of the pond, and tree cover, but I have had one problem. My dog was running on some fresh mulch and sliced open a pad good. I mean real good. Some other dog parks won’t use mulch for this reason…PS I haven’t been in several months…it’s possible the mulch is no more…anyone know?

  9. I’m wondering why retractable leads are not permitted….

  10. Basically, it’s a safety issue. The long thin cords of a retractable leash can get entangled around people or dog’s legs, and they are of little help to you if your dog gets into an altercation with another dog while inside the dog park. Most off leash parks discourage or prevent their use. A running dog inside the park could be “clotheslined” by a dog on a fully extended retractable. Our preference is that all dogs, once inside the park, are off-leash.
