Dog Park
Dogparks are gaining in popularity, and dogs certainly know why - there is nothing as much fun for a dog (and its human) as to run around off-leash, and play together in a nice park.
Those of us fortunate enough to live in a community where dogparks exist know that they are a wonderful way to exercise and socialize our dogs and ourselves - for many of us, it is a primary form of people recreation!
There are many successful dog parks that have been established across the country in the past several years. Dog ownership has increased significantly, and dog parks are also on the rise, providing dog owners opportunities to socialize and interact with others in their community, and for their dogs to have a controlled environment in which to have fun.
The Dog Park - In the beginning
It all started with a dream. Bernita Cauthon had a vision for an off leash dog park in Blue Springs; a place where dogs could socialize and play with each other, and where dog lovers could gather.
In June of 2005, this vision was brought forward during a Stand Up Blue Springs summit, and resulted in the formation of RUFF (Responsible Unleashed Fun for Fido), a group of local citizens with the common goal of establishing an off leash dog park in Blue Springs. RUFF is co-chaired by Chris Henning and Dena McLean.
Dog Park Now Open
We’ve come a long way since June of 2005. 2.7 acres of land in the new Gregory O Grounds Park has been turned into Blue Springs first Off-Leash Dog Park. The dog park includes access to a small pond, lots of open space, and large trees for shade. We’ve included a people/canine water fountain, and a dog wash area at the exit. The park offically opened August 11th, 2007.
